Where to Buy Weleda Skin Food in Australia & NZ? | Kanvas Beauty Buying Guide

You can shop Weleda Skin Food online in Australia and New Zealand - including the popular Weleda Body Butter right here on Kanvas Beauty! And stay tuned…Weleda deodorants and its mother/baby care range (yes, we mean the cult Weleda Perineum Massage Oil and the Weleda Stretch Mark Oil too).

WELEDA SKINFOOD: SWISS ORGANIC SKINCARE

You know Weleda's Skin Food range lives up to the hype, because its products have been around since 1926! That's right: for almost 100 years, this Swiss brand has been producing its famous, fragrant salve for dry and rough skin.

Since that time, the brand has expanded its range, to include deodorants and hygiene products (including our favourite, the Weleda Sage Deodorant mmmmm), shampoos, conditioners and the famous Weleda Hair Tonics, toothpaste and Weleda Baby Products.

WELEDA SKIN FOOD INGREDIENTS

Did you know Weleda sources at least 80% of its raw materials for its formulas from organic and biodynamic sources? Here's what else you need to know: All of Weleda's products are NATRUE certified. This means it does not use any synthetic fragrances, silicones, microplastics, nanoplastics, and petroleum-based raw materials such as paraffins. It is a true pioneer in the natural skincare industry. Plus, Weleda is a certified B Corp and all its products are climate neutral. In fact, it's one of the most transparent and ethical big brands we know.

Skin Food is pretty much the Weleda face cream. The original Skin Food is a rich cream blend of emollients such as sunflower seed oil and sweet almond oil with occlusives such as lanolin and beeswax. The Light version is very much similar in function, although it replaces sweet almond oil with cocoa seed butter and uses a smaller amount of lanolin. Skin Food Light also works better under makeup (in our opinion).

The Skin Food Body Butter has been an über popular addition. This Weleda moisturiser has the literal appearance and feel of butter, but without the greasiness. The formula of sunflower seed oil, cacao butter and shea butter can also be used on mild eczema / dermatitis. And psst....now there's a Weleda Lip Balm addition to the Skin Food range too!

WELEDA SKIN FOOD REVIEWS

With Skin Food winning awards and considered a 'holy grail' in the beauty industry, how does it work on various skin types and what do people like you and I really think? The reviews are almost universally good: Google reviews give it 4.6 stars out of 5 (impressive, given there's over 14,000 reviews) as does Amazon (and that's got over 26,000 global reviews!). Well, we've all used it at Kanvas Beauty and here's our honest opinion. The original Skin Food is fantastic, no doubt. It works well on mild dermatitis, cracked cuticles, ashy elbows and the like. Because it uses organic essential oils, it didn't suit those of us with sensitized and rosacea-prone skin when we used it on our face. Mind you, the texture is also thick and aimed at persistently dry skin, so oily and combination skin preferred the Light version (it's even thicker than the Embryolisse Lait Cream, for reference). It is also quite dewy in its finish. For these reasons, we thought the Light version sat better under makeup. Our favourite product though, was the Skin Food Body Butter and Body Lotion. The Body Butter is, well, very buttery (yes we know, our synonyms are lacking) but not greasy and didn't make our thighs and skirts stick together in that uncomfortable way that oily body moisturizers can sometimes encourage. The Body Lotion is even lighter and absorbs quicker, but still hydrates well enough for someone with dry skin. In short, it's a dry skin saviour, winter skin buddy and ashy-elbows terminator, but less required in humid climates for for those with already oily skin.

BEST WELEDA PRODUCTS

Apart from the famed Skin Food range. there are quite a few other products that rate a mention (that will all appear on Kanvas Beauty in due course):

  • Weleda Perineal Massage Oil: Of course, there is no silver bullet when it comes to perineum tears during childbirth, and no product can guarantee against that. With that said, countless women have attested this particular Weleda massage oil as helping lower the risks of perineal tears, making them feel better prepared for the sensations of labour, and also helping them (and their partner) connect with their body. The oil is meant to encourage the area's elasticity, and should be used from around the 32 week mark consistently with a partner's help (it's a bit hard to see over the tummy at that stage). The oil will last you throughout the trimester, and there'll be a bit leftover to help you with the post-birth recovery.
  • Weleda Nipple Cream: Weleda's Nipple Care Cream is yet another winner in the Pregnancy and post-partum care range. Those breastfeeding know what a painful and trying exercise it can be, particularly when dealing with constant cracked and sore nipples. This stuff really works. Regular application even on fairly severe cracks and after bad latches can help make breastfeeding a lot more comfortable.
  • Weleda Nappy Cream: Why are so many of Weleda's top products in the baby/parent category? We think it's the trust factor: aspects about a company such as its B Corp status, how it sources its ingredients, its trustworthiness and its natural certification matter more than ever when it comes to our offspring. It's only in recent memory that brands formerly synonymous with baby care have been wrapped up in devastating scandals (e.g. Johnson & Johnson's Baby Powder reportedly containing carcinogens, Nestle and its unethical Infant Formula promotions etc). Weleda gives parents a transparency and trust they feel they can rely on, and results they're able to see. Its Caledula Nappy Change Cream, meanwhile, helps to clear existing nappy rashes and keep future ones at bay. It feels natural and although it's a tad greasy, it does the job better than Sudocream, in our opinion.
  • Weleda Stretch Mark Oil: Okay, so there's a Stretch Mark Oil, Weleda, but does it work? Do any stretch mark oils work? Using only natural ingredients and no gimmicks, it can help improve the appearance of stretch marks but won't erase them (nothing topical does). Even better, it can help prevent the formation of stretch marks altogether by hydrating the skin and promoting its elasticity as your body changes during your pregnancy. Just note that some people's skin is naturally more elastic than others (damnit!) and others will get stretch marks no matter how often they soak themselves in oil. Life is mysterious like that. But moisture and hydration can make a big differerence, something Weleda's Stretch Marks Oil provides in spades with prenatal-friendly ingredients.

THE FAST FACTS

Q: What does Weleda Skin Food do?
A: If you're a fan of natural and organic skin care AND have dry skin, Weleda Skin Food will feed your skin what it craves! It's the salve for persistently dry skin, and not just on your face - but anywhere on your body. It works by functioning as both an emollient (moisturizing) and a semi-occlusive (coating), thanks to ingredients such as sunflower seed oil and beeswax.

Q: Is the Weleda Pregnancy Oil any good?
A: Using only natural ingredients and no gimmicks, Weleda's Pregnancy Oil can help improve the appearance of stretch marks but won't erase them (nothing topical does).

Q: How to use Weleda Skin Food on face?
A: Yes, you can use Weleda Skin Food on your face! It's meant as both a face-and-body product. Remember, this stuff is thicky-thick-thiccc: you only need to use a small amount of Weleda Skin Food on your face for all-over the moisture. It has a melty texture and therefore spreads easily. Plus, it leaves a dewy sheen so you don't want to use too much unless you really want to dial up the shine.

Q: Who owns Weleda Skin Care?
A: Weleda is a publicly listed Swiss company, with the major shareholders (in terms of voting rights) being the General Anthroposophical Society and The Arlesheim Clinic.
